Janet DiFiore Is Approved by Senate as New York’s Chief Judge

Janet DiFioreYesterday was an exciting day for Italian American Women! We congratulate Janet DiFiore, whose nomination by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo as Chief Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals was just approved by the New York State Senate. It was announced in The New York Times on January 21.

In 2007, DiFiore became the first female Italian American District Attorney. In the early spring of 2008, NOIAW held a brunch at the V.I.P. Country Club in celebration of this significant accomplishment. At the brunch Judge DiFiore was introduced by NOIAW Distinguished Board Member Matilda Raffa Cuomo.

District Attorney Janet DiFiore has devoted her career to the fair administration of justice, both as a prosecutor and as a judge. Throughout her career, she has brought to her work a combination of bold and effective ideas, a willingness to work extensively with colleagues and partner agencies, and a non-partisan approach to problem-solving which emphasizes collaborative effort and shared credit.
