NOIAW GOES VIRTUAL IN 2020 AND BEYOND
CREATIVELY RESHAPING PROGRAMMING
TO REACH VIEWERS WATCHING FROM HOME
When the COVID-19 pandemic began in the U.S. and NOIAW’s regional constituents went into quarantine in spring 2020, NOIAW board, staff, and volunteers united to transform all of our paid, in-person cultural programming into an ongoing series of free online broadcasts (live streams) featuring experts on topics relevant and helpful to our members and the community at large. NOIAW’s livestreams included conversations with physicians fighting the pandemic in Italy and the United States, psychologists on methods of coping with quarantine, a fitness instructor and a registered dietitian on how to eat well and remain fit, a historian/museum director on how Italian cultural institutions can adapt programming to keep patrons engaged, a business leader on the logistics of reopening, and a series of “travel to Italy” from home programs, exploring various regions in Italy with the help of experts in cultural tourism!
These “Online Offerings” originally broadcasted live via Facebook are now archived for ongoing viewing here, at the top of the NOIAW Facebook page, and on the NOIAW YouTube channel. While our programming prior to the pandemic required paid registration, our online offerings in response to the pandemic have been streamed free of charge, to serve and sustain our membership and the Italian American community at large in the most relevant ways, as we see this challenging time through together. NOIAW has since returned to offering paid virtual programming at registration fees that remain highly accessible to the general public. We encourage you to sign up for programs which interest you. If you are not already on our mailing list, drop us a line at noiaw@noiaw.org and let us know to add you, based on the region in which you reside.
We wish you well in this challenging time.
